IVONA Software entrepreneurs are awarded the Gold Cross of Merit

On the occasion of Freedom, the anniversary of the elections on June 4, 1989 - The President of Poland, Bronisław Komorowski, presented state awards to people actively managing Polish freedom in various areas of life: culture, business, and science. The creators of IVONA Text-to-Speech, Łukasz Osowski and Michał Kaszczuk, received awards for outstanding contribution to the development of Polish entrepreneurship, and for achievements in the promotion of Polish technical thought, respectively.

“There is no joy without freedom and there is no freedom without deeply felt joy and ability to show it,” President Bronisław Komorowski said at the Presidential Palace on June 4, the anniversary of the 1989 elections. That day (June 4, 1989 or, partially free elections in Poland) marks the victory not only of the Solidarity trade union but also Poland as a whole, the president said.

Distinctions were granted to foreign correspondents in Poland in the 1970s and 1980s: Chris Niedenthal, Francois Gault, Jacqueline Hayden, Alma Kadragic, Renate Marsch-Potocka, Geri Nasarski, Joana Radzyner, Guenter Schubert, Krzysztof Bobiński and Joanna Węgrzynowicz-Weschler. Also honoured were the Belgians who organised transport with donations for Poland, namely, Frans Walter, Guy Fransen and Linda Hofkens. The president also presented awards to various businessmen and athletes.

The ceremony was attended by Prime Minister Donald Tusk, ministers and foreign diplomats.
